Right in the face of Ashanti

10 05 2011

We found the Ngamo girls on the move through the Etosha area this morning (7th May) shaking off the icy dewdrops and warming themselves up with some echoing roars. We have certainly noticed a drop in temperature in Ngamo over the past couple of weeks and also an increase in activity. It would seem the cooler weather is encouraging our pride to hunt more during midday hours and continue their patrolling duties long after the sun has risen. But before we were just about to rid them of the ‘lazy lion’ stereotype, all females peeled off into a nearby thicket to sleep for the rest of the day… As always though AT1 kept things entertaining for us to watch, much to the annoyance of Ashanti. Soon her cub-energy dwindled and she too adopted an appropriate dozing position for the rest of the day.
